English as a Second Language and English as a Foreign Language Preservice Teacher Cognitions: Research Insights from around the World (2005-2021)

This review examined English as a Second Language (ESL) and Foreign (EFL) preservice teacher cognition studies spanning 17-year period (2005 to 2021). The main objective was explore the nature development of ESL EFL cognitions they relate their teacher-education coursework teaching practice. Findings indicate that ESL/EFL are complex, multifaceted, recursive, frequently related experiences language learners. Although included in this were conducted different international contexts, findings consistent: there is need for supportive comprehensive preservice-teacher preparation accounts three factors. (1) Valuing teachers’ beliefs learners, (2) facilitating negotiation newer resulting from education coursework, (3) preparing them negotiate tensions interactions with mentors field placements. paper concludes by discussing pedagogical implications programs.
